Electives for Life!

ABOUT US

The Consumer and Family Studies Department at Fountain Valley High School is fortunate to have a wide variety of courses – something for everybody!

A student’s time in high school is the best time to explore possible career interests through courses offered.  Whether the student decides to enter the workforce directly out of high school, or go onto college, utilizing the opportunity to take classes in career pathways is a smart decision.

Our department has three career pathways – Culinary, Fashion, and Interior Design.  What is a pathway?  It is a series of courses designed to give the student an excellent experience with skills that could lead to a better than entry-level job in that career.  Students may take these classes to add to their knowledge and use in their personal lives during and beyond high school.

We also have courses that are not in a pathway, but will enrich their education and life.  Our courses are aligned with the Home Economics Career and Technology state standards, which were recently rewritten to include the Common Core State Standards and adopted by the California Department of Education.
